CHALLENGE MESSING AROUND DAY 2

Hello my lovelies. I hope you are all safe and sound. This life is beginning to feel like the movie Groundhog Day. I think the trick is to build some kind of realistic routine that you can live with once our lockdown period ends. Something that resembles the kind of life we had before the lockdown but by eliminating the things we learn we no longer need; we can produce a fresh start. It’s worth a try.

I am trying to work out how to work my daily messing around art challenge into play every day this month. So, I sat down this afternoon and stared at my little Pink Pig sketchbook. Sarah and I bought a rather big batch of them some years ago and we’re still working our way through them.

I find a blank page rather daunting. So, I reached for a Mollie Makes magazine and ripped a page out and ripped that page into smaller segments and glued them down on the blank page. Then I added some Derwent Inktense water colour pencil around the paper to add a wee bit of shading and so on. This page is really simple and I may come back and add something else to it but for now this is what I’ve got. I’ve got a little inspiration for tomorrow’s page. My friend Joanna suggested I do an art journal. So that’s where the Pink Pig sketchbook comes in. I’m going to use only what I have at home as it’s a bit more difficult to get out and about to find little bits and pieces. As I sit here, I can remember bits that I have stuffed in a drawer across the room which be good to use in this art journal. Now I’m feeling a bit more enthusiastic about doing this messing around challenge. Who knows what inspiration I may produce for future quilt making projects by doing this? Sometimes you have to step away from what you love to push you forward.

Challenge Day 2

So, I guess that’s my report for today. I hope you all have a super cosy evening doing something you truly love doing. Will you be going outside at 8pm to clap in support of the NHS? I may stand shoulder to should 2 metres apart from my neighbours and clap in solidarity. We’re all in this together. And if we do what’s asked of us, we will all save a life and be real heroes. Until next time,

Let’s all keep on stitching and messing around with art supplies,

Lucie x

  1. Thank you so much for sharing your creative journal with us. It is giving me inspiration to get up and do something rather than mooch around any longer. I might even get back to my blog!! If you can do it surely I can too. Stay safe. Mary

A new tip, if you are out and about, pick up some dry thingies in the woods or garden. If they are not dry, then dry them, incorporate them into your collages, layer layer layer.
Use these herbs or nettles, berries, soak your cloth in them and try home dying! new colors for you fabric art!…..nuts, shells, tea, coffee grounds….

    1. Thank you for those ideas Joanna. I’m starting to gather bits and pieces from around the house and soring them in a basket which I will drag out everyday to choose something interesting to incorporate in that day’s journal page. My store of Pi k Pig sketchbooks are finally coming in handy. I hope to inspire one or two participants by showing my simple work everyday or even every other day. I’ve started out simple, I wonder what my work will look like by the end of the month. The creative juices are starting to flow again. Thanks for popping in today xx

  3. Lovely idea Lucie. I’ve also got some pretty notebooks squirreled away & along with pencils, stamps & other strange crafty bits’n’bobs, I might join you too. I wasn’t going to give up doing, but had thought about not blogging, so maybe this will keep me going too. I wonder what today will bring? Hopefully a walk after our rain yesterday & before it starts again tomorrow. I did take my camera with me on Monday for our local walk, so maybe a blog post on that might kick start me again. Thanks Lucie & Joanna for the inspiration. Stay safe all, take care & huggles from a long way off.

    1. Hi Susan, I believe taking your camera along with you for you daily walk is a great idea which might inspire you to use you pretty notebooks and other art supplies to have a go at making some art. Give it a go. It might be a good way to record/Express your feelings during this frustrating pandemic. Post it on your blog and we can try to link up. Thanks for popping in x
