Hello my lovelies. I hope you’re all enjoying a super weekend. It’s a bank holiday here in the UK. Yahoo, three days of peace and quiet. So, I got up early and did my household chores and disappeared into my sewing room and had a little play. Here’s what I have been prepping …..
I’m hoping to be able to give myself permission to play in my sewing room again tomorrow. I really would like to start machining these patches in place. Note that I keep my designs simple nowadays. Doing this kind of appliqué work gives me a chance to use my scraps. If you look closely you see that even the background is pieced using leftovers from other projects. Piecing the background is a boring chore but it’s definitely worth the effort. Not to mention that when I next purchase fabric to be used for backgrounds I won’t feel guilty.

ONE QUILTING STITCH AT A TIME 
I love the pieced background. It adds another dimension to the block. I took a class from Pat Sloan a few years ago and it was “all about” piecing backgrounds. We put the craziest pieces together but it “WORKED”. I have that background built for a project, and all the applique bits traced and cut out on fusible….I just need to move forward. On my list for this summer. 🙂 Enjoy your holiday weekend.

Hi Mary, I do envy you having taken a class with Pat Sloan. And the fact that she teaches pieced backgrounds is great. Now I know I’m on the right track. I suppose it’s all a matter of taste and style. So far I’m quite happy with my humble style. I look forward to seeing your pieced background project when you’ve made a little more progress. I absolutely adore the pieced backgrounds….it adds so much interest to the blocks. Your applique designs are quite lovely. Blessings from this side of the Atlantic….it’s a very hot day here in southeastern West Virginia on this Memorial Day weekend.

Lovely. Your simple applique on the pieced backgrounds always makes me smile & I do refer to it as the “Lucie look”, which I hope you don’t mind? I’ve used lots of scraps for backgrounds, but only with piecing, though I’ve not done much of that lately, as I seem to have embraced the “modern” style of late. Not sure why, but maybe I’m after simple too & even my blogging seems to have taken a hit with simple, though that seems to be at a complete standstill at the moment. Got to find some mojo. Hi Helen, unfortunately that teal fabric was just a scrap that had no selvedge on it. And I believe I’ve had it a long time so I can’t tell you what it was. I am sorry that I couldn’t be more helpful. Thanks for popping in x
