Hello my lovelies. I hope it’s been a good day in your little world. I spent mine in my sewing room machine quilting my Moving Forward quilt. I stitched a little bit of this ….

And then added a bit of this …..

I did a little meandering which as you can see adds texture and interest …..

I spent several hours cheering myself on until I decided it was time to call it a day. I got 2/3 of the way thru the job today. I hope to get the last third done tomorrow.

Before I started stitching this morning I really didn’t know how it would look. I knew that I wanted plenty of texture which makes the patches pop. I think I managed to create the texture that I wanted. If you look at my quilt properly you’ll see that it’s all very simple quilting. I’m quite happy with simple as it showcases the fine hand appliqué work that I put into this project. You might also have noticed that the background although all from the same collection is different. This is what makes a project interesting, the many different shades of colour, size of print, the shapes of the patches etc. This particular quilt was designed by me. And I’m quite pleased with the result so far. I can’t wait to see the whole quilt finished and ready to either use or hang somewhere in my house.

I have a few other quilts that need custom quilting from my stash of finished quilt tops. I’m hoping to get caught up on that pile this summer. While I was machine quilting today my view was pretty dull …..

There’s nothing sadder than an empty design wall. I have a couple of projects in the design stage but nothing to hang on the design wall yet. I can’t wait to add colour to said wall.

So, as you can see I’ve been keeping pretty busy today. I machine quilted until my body told me it was time for a break. I’ll be sure to have a good rest tonight so I can flash up my machine first thing in the morning. I hope you all have a super cosy evening doing something you truly enjoy doing. Until next time,

Let’s all keep on stitching.

Lucie x

  1. Lovely to see you posting beautiful work again Lucie and great to talk to you just now! The quilt I’m working on is Bee Happy, another of Lori Holt’s designs. Search the hashtag on Instagram or FB if you don’t know it. When I’m finished I’d love you to quilt it for me! Moira x

    1. Hi Moira, It’s lovely to hear from you. And it sounds like you’re doing very well. I googled Bee Happy, it’s a very happy quilt. All of Lori Holt’s projects are super and make me smile. Enjoy every minute of working on your Bee Happy quilt. Thanks for popping in x

  2. Hi there, so once again, excuse my ignorance of these matters. The double border quilting is just lovely. I do not know how the machine knows to go around all the applique. It is a wonderful finish to this project. Just amazing how all those story blocks POP!, I just love it. So, the question is, how does the machine know how….?????
I always thought that you just turned it on, chose a pattern and went for coffee LOL. I realize I know nothing about this machine and how it functions. If you have time maybe one bloggy day, I would like to know more about it. It must be quite complicated to learn. Suffering from a sinus cold and throat, ich. Slow day for me today.
    Hugs to all.

    1. Hi Joanna, My latest longarm quilting effort: the borders were digitally stitched (computer controlled) but the areas around the patches were hand driven. So what that means is the computer was told where to stitch the geometric design and the hand driven areas where controlled by me pushing the sewing machine carriage all around the patches creating texture and making said patches pop. This is a custom quilting job which rather than an all over quilting design which is usually created by the computer connected to the sewing machine on my longarm quilting frame. I’m sorry you’re feeling under the weather. Do you suffer from hay fever? The pollen count has been quite high here, it’s tree pollen season at the moment. Cuddle up with Basile and read a good book while you heal. Thanks for popping in x

  3. Gosh, so much to learn, eh? But wow, what a result. What a job, but what a finish. So time consuming. Will look up the Bee Happy, I am always interested in the patterns, so much fun. You have to be pretty chuffed with these last two quilts, Lucie. Proud of you. Thank you for taking the time to explain the process. I appreciate it, very much. Normally I have no allergies but this year is so different, what with the weather changes around the world. The plants don’t know where they are going! Trees are blowing themselves out, right now. Basile is always cuddled up on my lap, with the phone or laptop, he is a jealous big boy…ha ha. Trying to get better, but it takes time, right? Your good wishes are well received. Count down to the big day, now. Take care, Joanna. xx
